Did you see....

...the sunset I posted on my Facebook account?

I stepped out my backdoor yesterday evening at sunset and this is what I saw. See, I know there are people that disdain the city we spend our winter in and the RV resort snowbird lifestyle. It is not glitzy or even up scale. Tucson is not any of those things.

But, when I look around me and what we see on a daily basis or talk to the people the pass by on their way to bocce ball, I know that if I didn't appreciate what we have I would be very ungrateful. 

What you see here is two people walking their dog. It is chilly and it did frost last night. On  the right side of the picture are bocce ball courts. On the right I see park models where friends live. Palm trees line the streets that were cleaned last week. In the distance you see the Catalina Mountains in all their glory. 

I have come to love this place. We are not a perfect fit but I suppose we are as close as we will ever be. We avoid politics, religion and (I) avoid gossip...in a place like this gossip runs the world so a very smart person ducks when the conversation come around to "did you know?"

But the picture...really we are living on a million dollar piece of real estate! Life is good.

      Yes you could...it is a fun game for all ages. People here in the park are boomers up thru their nineties. Everyone is welcome and it is a lot of fun. We even have a competition at the end of the year that draws a huge crowd1

    I was in Tucson only one time ... and I don't think you have to be defensive or apologetic about it at all. It's a real nice place! (We want to go back sometime to go to the observatory.)

      There is a world class University here with all that means to a community. But, the Old Pueblo is very down home and western. You either love it or not. Dude ranches and resorts that take your breath away are a big draw. It is unique in many ways.

    My husband was just there for work and walked thru campus. It's quite different from when we're there 1970-1975. I still love the desert but we love where we've been since leaving Tucson.

    We are beginning our fifth year at our 55+ park about seven miles from you. We love the people and the activities and the sunsets and the fact that we come here in the winter to live, not to sit out life. We are so lucky!

      I agree Linda. The lifestyle we life is very active. We would come here if only for our health. It has become a necessity.

    Hey, that looks pretty upscale compared to our RV park in the Florida Keys. But, "upscale" is not what we come here for. We come for the sea, palm trees, the warm weather, and the friendly community that we have come to know over the years. We are so lucky.

How to be a Snowbird in 2024

Early years in RV resort! Our motor home is parked next to our  first Park Model When it begins to cool in the evenings and the geese fly in formation, my mind turns to Arizona. Yearning for the desert air and vibrant blue sky is compel me to fly away. I do it every year and will as long as I am  allowed. Townhome near Tucson's Pantano Wash and bike trail. How to be a 12 Month Snow Bird

Vacation Rental in Mexico I live around snowbirds 6 months of the year. I have heard those people say that they all want to live the "snowbird" lifestyle when they go home. But it just is not possible. They are isolated and cold. Social activities with friends and beautiful weather are greatly missed when they return to the realities of their "real" life. One couple I visited with lately returned to Florida this morning where they own a home. The woman is a nurse and works in the summer. They are not going home until May this year.
